Auto Insurance

When starting out on our own we don't know to factor in life's many costs such as health care, income taxes, car payments, rent payments, utility costs, credit card bills, food expenses, and student loans into out monthly budget. While in school many of us dream of out first real job after graduating, then reality sets in and you see that you don't have the money you need to pay for everything.

Credit cards and student loans may be one reason as to why many people are driving around without auto insurance, in other words a lack of money and misplaced priorities lead to many Americans driving around a vehicle that is not insured as required by law.

Allowing your auto insurance to lapse or not getting any insurance at all may seem like a cost effective idea at the time, consider the possible and likely expenses you will have to pay for if you are involved in a car accident or are given a ticket by the police. A ticket seems like nothing, even though it can cost upwards of $1,000 but if you were to cause an auto accident and physically injured someone, hospital bills can be upwards of $50,000 if the injuries are serious, and you would still be required to pay for the damaged vehicles.

The Insurance Information Institute determined that the fines for driving without auto insurance vary from state to state and is dependent on the percentage of drivers who are uninsured in the state. In Massachusetts you can be given a fine from $500- $5,000 and will receive a one year jail sentence.

In Florida you can have your vehicle impounded if you are driving around without insurance and you get pulled over by the police or are involved in an accident, and then you are charged storage fees depending on how long it takes you to get the vehicle out of the impound lot.

You can visit the Department of Motor Vehicles website to see the exact fines and penalties in your state for driving without insurance. Knowing the fines and comparing it to an auto insurance quote is an easy way to help you realize having auto insurance is much more financially wise.

To begin the search for the perfect auto insurance policy you can get online and visit a few different companies. Auto insurance companies make it incredibly easy to get a fast and free quote from their company at their website in as little as five to ten minutes. Go with a company that offers six or twelve month payment plans so that you can easily budget your insurance costs.

You should also look for a variety of discounts that you may qualify for such as college or university discounts, good driver discounts, senior discounts, etc. Ask your agent about any discounts you may be able to qualify for.
